WWI Centenary

November 2018 marks 100 years since the end of World War One.  Along with villages and towns across the country Rampton made its own contribution to and its own sacrifice for that conflict – more than 30 men served in some capacity and of these 11 were killed – this from an eligible population of fewer than 60.

It is important that Rampton remembers its sacrifice, and to do this the Village Hall will be hosting a series of events over the weekend of 10th and 11th November.

Provisional Programme:

The Homecoming - Commemorating the Centenary of WWI in Rampton 10th & 11th November 2018

  • From the weekend before - village wide artwork commemorating the men from Rampton who did not return from the war

Saturday 10th November

  • 11am planting of a hornbeam tree on the recreation ground (Parish Council)
  • 2.00-4.30pm The Homecoming: Art, Displays, WWI music, tea & cake in the Village Hall
  • 4.30pm Talk: The Rampton Roll of Honour

 Sunday 11th November

  • 2pm Remembrance Service at the War Memorial
  • 2.30pm (following Remembrance Service) Talk: ‘Dear Mother and All’ - The war letters of Stanley Parker of Rampton

If you have anything in your family relating to the War – e.g. photos, documents, objects or stories – I would love to hear from you.
