CareRing activities

Rampton CareRing - suggestions for activities whilst in isolation

We're pretty sure that being in quarantine isn't on anyone's bucket list but, if that is where you are, here are a few ideas to pass some time. If you have other suggestions please send them to [email protected] and we'll add them to the list.


  • Phone a friend or family member. Call, text, FaceTime, or Zoom someone you haven’t spoken to in a while.
  • Work on your family tree - subscriptions to Ancestry and Find My Past make it easy to do from home but you can start with just a sheet of paper, a pen and family photos


  • National Theatre is streaming free plays including hits such as One Man, Two Guvnors, Jane Eyre, Treasure Island and more
  • Virtual Museum Tours - wander around some of the world's most popular museums (powered by Google Street View technology)
  • So many works to explore at the Art Institue of Chicago - thousands of artworks in the museum’s wide-ranging collection from their world-renowned icons to lesser-known gems from every corner of the globe as well as books, writings, reference materials, and other resources
  • Cosmic Shamble Network - live streaming podcasts such as Book Shambles, Science Shambles and mixed bill Comedy Nights.
  • 2,500 museums to visit virtually
  • Fifteen Broadway plays and musicals you can watch on stage from home
  • Audible books have a free 30-day trial
  • Stellarium - online planetarium with lots of features


  • Do some Yoga, you can find many free routines online - with lots for complete beginners
  • Virtual Fun Run -  virtual replacement for the 2020 Cottenham 7K run - join, share, post and enjoy.


  • Join Gareth Malone's Great British Home Chorus - sing together from your home!
  • Or join the Sofa Singers - a free weekly online singing event that aims to bring people together from around the world.
  • Sit back, relax and enjoy a live concert from the University of Liverpool's Department of Music
  • A list from C-Net with links to many livestream concerts you can watch during the shutdown. Stream live concerts of your favorite bands and musicians like Phish, Miley Cyrus, Diplo, Melissa Etheridge, Goo Goo Dolls, Questlove and many more. #couchtour



LEARN - use this time to learn something new

  • FutureLearn have interesting free courses (unless you want a certificate) put together by universities across the world. Find something that you’d like to learn about. They have courses in a diverse range of subjects and are always adding more. Courses vary in length. Most are six to ten weeks long with some shorter two and three week courses
  • Ivy League courses for free via freeCodeCamp. Courses across all subject areas from these eight Ivy League universities in the US


  • Rainfall Rescue - help Rainfall Rescue to digitise historical rainfall records, so that climate scientists can help water companies plan for dry and wet weather in future. By helping to digitise the records, they can unlock answers to questions about our weather and changing climate, as well as contribute to new discoveries.
  • Eye for Diabetes - help improve the eye health of people with diabetes by checking retinal images.
  • Anti-Slavery Manuscripts - help to turn Boston Public Library's collection of handwritten correspondence between anti-slavery activists in the 19th century into texts that can be more easily read and researched by students, teachers, historians, and big data applications. Note: This project is not currently supported on mobile and tablet devices.
  • Planet Four - help explore the surface and weather of Mars' south polar region
